Do you remember the first time you met the New River? Have you introduced others to the New? Will you introduce
your children or grandchildren, the Next Generation, to the New?
Health and protection come from a collective vigilance that speaks for the New River. We hope you will be a voice
that helps to protect the New River for the generations to come.
We’re proud to partner with community minded folks, like Sean and Stephanie in Boone. From the very beginning,
they built Appalachian Mountain Brewery with concern for the River. They restored the stream banks on the property
and installed rain gardens in their parking lot. “Without NCNR, all of our lives would be very different. This
organization does things that most people never see, but rest assured that it is the effect of what happens downstream
that really shows your compassion for the environment and the community that you serve at large.”
No one can be certain how many generations have experienced the wonder and beauty of the New River. From its calm and
tranquil headwaters in North Carolina through the rural heartland of Virginia to the untamed narrows of West Virginia’s
gorge, the New can be disarmingly inviting or defiantly challenging.
Your donation today will help acquire critical land that will add another 100 acres to the New River State Park
currently not accessible by the public.
Projects like this protect the scenic beauty and water quality of the New.
Protecting the river for the next generation motivates private land owners too.
The conservation easement keeps the property in Ed’s name, but forever protects it from development. It’s a decision
that will affect generations long after he's gone. “I would like to see other property owners do the same thing, if
they don’t want their property developed,” urged Robertson. “There’s money in development but then when it’s developed
it’s all gone, it’s over.”
There are many opportunities for you to help right now. Your contribution today will ensure that future generations
will be able to enjoy the river as you have!
To better understand all the issues affecting the New, NCNR has launched a new initiative that will focus on harnessing
the collective scientific research power available from all the research institutions, universities, state and federal
agencies, and nonprofits working in and around the New River watershed.
With your help, we’ve launched a website that will facilitate the sharing of research and knowledge. Your contribution
today will ensure that the best information is available to you and us. And that together, we can use this information
to protect the New.
Your gift today will really help to continue important programs like these.
For those of us who live, work, and play on and around the New River, water quality is of primary importance. The water
quality data collected by you, our volunteers, and our partners is critical to understanding the health of the river.
While it is time consuming and costly, this data informs policy that impacts communities throughout the New River
watershed. NCNR will continue to be there to serve as a voice for the New River.
We appreciate your past support and hope that you will continue to help with a gift today.
Sincerely and for the River,
