Grand totals for 2008's New River Clean Up Success:
- 543 volunteers
- 19,805 pounds (almost 10 tons) of trash
- 1,134 tires
- and more than 72 miles of the New's watershed in Virginia's Grayson, Wythe, Giles, Carroll, Pulaski and Montgomery Counties and the city of Radford and in North Carolina's Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany Counties.
Needless to say, 2008's spring, summer and fall efforts have been setting records all over the watershed. We're working in more and more counties in the watershed, picking up more trash than ever, mobilizing and partnering with more related organizations than ever, and seeing more volunteer participation than ever!
And, much of this effort is helping to build long-term relationships and programs. NCNR is looking forward to expanding our spring, summer and fall clean ups into even more of the river's watershed.
For 2009, we are planning to expand our efforts with a spring tributary focused clean up. Courtney is actively recruiting organizations and groups for this project, so please do contact her with suggestions for participants this spring, maybe even you!
